Valuable results from SCAC in half-time

SCAC has now reached half-time and has already achieved valuable results.

SCAC is focused on providing scientific support for air and climate action. The results are used by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency for follow-up and action related to the national environmental quality objectives, as a basis for international negotiations in the CLRTAP air convention and in the EU's work on air quality.

These are the headlines from the four work packages after 18 months of work:

  • Unexpectedly high climate impact of air pollution in the Arctic
  • Strong correlation between air pollution and premature death
  • Higher levels of ozone earlier in the spring can affect tree growth
  • Swedish climate policy can reach half of the nitrogen oxide requirements – more instruments are required
